Carbondale business ordered to pay back wages and damages in labor complaint

A federal court is ordering Longbranch Cafe and its owner to pay nearly $100,000 in back pay and damages to workers who complained of illegal tip practices and other issues.
The U.S. Department of Labor says the order from Judge Staci Yandle is in addition to a jury award of almost $4,900 announced last year.
The Labor Department says the Dayemi Organization, operating as Longbranch Cafe and Bakery, along with Elaine Ramsyer Greenberg will have to pay $98,400 in back wages and damages.
The award comes after a review of records from February of 2018 through February of 2020, which found Longbranch violated the law when baristas and servers were required to share tips with cooks and dishwashers.
