HEADLINES FROM LAST WEEK

Football had two if its alums earn some awards, including defensive lineman Corey Moore (College Football Hall of Fame) and offensive lineman Jake Grove (Rimington Legends Award).

In a thriller, then-No. 13 women’s basketball defeated Louisville 81-79 for the first time since 1995. The Hokies were led by four players in double figures, including Taylor Soule’s impressive 24 points.

Track and field hosted the Virginia Tech Invitational and started its indoor season strong, with the men’s 4×400-meter relay clocking the fastest time nationally (3:09.6) and Rebecca Mammel tossing the longest women’s weight throw mark (22.96 meters).

No. 9 wrestling went down to Boone, North Carolina and came back with a 23-11 win over No. 22 App Statebehind winning seven of the 10 bouts.

Facing in-state rival Virginia in Charlottesville, the men’s side defeated UVA 162-138 for the first win there in the Sergio Miro Lopez era.
